Swype is an Android app that enters text simply by moving a finger over letters. The Android keyboard alternative then predicts what word you meant to type, correcting errors and speeding up the data-entry process.
Previously, the beta version of Swype was available only for WVGA devices like the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One. Now, there’s a tweaked version of the app available for HVGA devices like the G1, myTouch, Hero, and more. Below is a simple video tutorial explaining how easy it is to install the device on your phone.
First, you will need to download this file from the XDA Developers Forum. (If you run into problems, ask questions there because they are better equipped to answer them).
Also, here’s a set of videos providing tips on how to Swype and improve accuracy. Thanks for the tip, Neil Lund.

I've wanted to try this app on my G1. I'm qwerty keyboard fan but this can change that. It may even make me buy a N1 instead of waiting for a N1 with qwerty.
It's very accurate and works wonderfully. Thanks.

I’m on my droid. It wont let me watch it.

Just installed on my G1. Bravo!! it's brilliant. Could you imagine Swype on a tablet like the Ipad? Apple are you listening?

But without a keyboard you won't be able to play 'What the Doodle' – which is fantastic!

I have a myTouch and I dont have the option to de-select the android keyboard.. any advice?

Do you have the option to switch to Swype? As long as you enable in Locale and then long-press on a text-entry field, you should be able to do it.

How do you install it onto your sd card? i cant figure it out.
February 10th, 2010 at 6:49 pm
also what do you save the file to/as on your computer?
February 10th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
Katlyn, mount your SD card to the computer and copy the file to your SD card. Save the .zip file and export the .apk file that's stored inside of it.
Plug-in the phone, swipe the notification bar and press Mount. When it opens the SD card on your computer, copy the .apk file to your SD card

What phone do you use and is it Windows or Mac? For most, it works this way:
1 – Plug your phone into the computer
2 – Swipe down the notification bar on your phone and select "Mount"
3 – After a few seconds, your computer should recognize the SD card. Click the option to Open the folder for browsing. Take note of where the SD card is stored (Look in the explorer bar and you'll see something like "Removable Disk K:")
4 – Now go to the folder that you saved the Swype zip file. Right-click the file and select "Extract" or unzip here
5 – You should now see a file ending with ".apk" Right click that file and send it to the SD card (select the "Removable Disk K:" or something like it).
Then the video will take you through the process of how to install it on your SD card.

I installed Swype on my Nexus One and it is not working. Will not switch from the Android Keyboard. In the Swype settings I clicked on the Tutorial and is asked me “The Swype package you installed does not match the screen size of the device. Please contact Swype about this issue. Screen size: 480×800.” Not sure what do to. I installed: Swype-SwypeReference-HVGA-trial-release.1.16.12.5228.219.apk
(5.33 MB) Help please… thanks!

Barb you need to download the wvga version. This is for low resolution devices. This webpage should take care of you and anyone else with the many other second gen devices!
March 3rd, 2010 at 4:09 am
Maybe I should actually paste the page
http://www.nexusforum.net/nexus-one-application-day/404-nexus-one-app-day-1-24-10-swype.html
Enjoy!
March 3rd, 2010 at 7:07 am
Thanks – that worked! Still have a message pop up about screen size here and there – but it does work!
March 3rd, 2010 at 10:33 pm
LOL – ya that helps – but I had already found it anyway! Thanks!
March 8th, 2010 at 3:33 am
So after I have Swype all installed and am liking it lots and am all used to using it – it suddenly tells me my trial version is over and it no longer works. What is up with that – can you purchase it for the Nexus One yet or not?? The trial should not stop working if you cannot purchase it yet??

I was able to download swype onto mytouch but when I swype, the words won't come on. I have to type it in for it to work. Any suggestions?

I have extracted the file to my computer but there is no apk file there. Where might it be?
