T-Mobile myTouch 3G owners receiving a mysterious OTA update

Android Phones, Carriers, Firmware updates, HTC, T-Mobile
It seems that myTouch 3G owners have been receiving an unexpected OTA update recently. The update is not offering anything new in terms of a version, and seems to be largely a mystery. One thing we can say for certain is even after this update, you will still be running 1.6. According to an update on the Android Guys post;
“this update is to fix the calls being missed as they were not showing as missed calls.”
Sounds good, but still, it would be nice to see something a little more official in terms of what was updated and/or added come from T-Mobile. The one nice part here is that despite most people not being sure of what this update actually did, is that I have not seen many complaints about it hurting anything.

Question: Is anyone (in the Android blog-o-sphere) hammering T-Mobile USA for any answers regarding 2.X updates to their existing line up? I swear it seems they are the only company to not come forward with any information. My recent post Video Texting – NOT Sexting (that's gross)
So… what does this mean if I have a rooted phone with Cyanogen's mod? Do I need to find some way to get this update, or does it not apply since I have a different ROM?
