Motorola announces that no OTA update is coming for the DROID

Android OS, Android Phones, Carriers, Motorola, Verizon
Remember that OTA update that was supposed to be in the process of rolling out? Well, according to Motorola, that update is not coming. The news comes by way of the official Motorola Twitter account which read;
For DROID users asking about an OTA update, we have not released a new one since Dec. update. Pls visit our support forums if having issues!
Simple and to the point, the DROID will not be receiving an update, at least not yet. While annoying that this seemed to be a real update, it is strange how we read so many reports of fixes to the Facebook issues as well as improvements to the battery life. Not sure where they were coming from, but at least for now Motorola DROID users can stop waiting for the update that is not coming.

This is terrible reporting. Where did Motorola announce that no update will be coming? All they said was that none had come yet. It is irresponsible for you to say, in the title of your post as well as twice in the post itself, that "no update is coming."
Parsing the actual tweet, (http://twitter.com/MotoMobile/statuses/8074996486… Motorola doesn't say an over-the-air update *isn't* coming (like your headline implies). Rather, it says there hasn't been once since December. Clearly an update did not roll out on Jan. 22 as some expected, but that was just a rumored target date, right? Still, until there's an announcement, I'm not going to expect any updates, which is disappointing.
Yeah I am going to have to agree. Nothing said its NOT coming. Just states they haven’t released one yet. I would definitely change this title and post a RT
If indeed an update is not coming for the Eris, our two handsets go back to Verizon this week.
I will take the hit for a slightly poor choice of wording. The "no update coming" was referring to the first sentence of the post. Which was that people thought an OTA update was already in the process of going out. The "no update coming" does not mean no update will ever come, just that no update is coming now.
Take this with a grain of salt, but while purchasing the Motorala Droid yesterday I was told by Verizon employee that an update should be available by April.
I would prefer that they take there time and get it right the first time. If it takes till April, that is fine, as long as it eventually comes out. Maybe if it does take that long it will have more stuff in it or be much more stable.
So the the blog title is completely misleading because the title is out-of-context, but within the context of the linked blog/article it is completely accurate: http://androinica.com/2010/01/21/ota-update-currently-rolling-out-for-the-motorola-droid/ So, to recap: No, there was no Droid OTA update Jan 22 as was rumoured, and yes, Droid will get 2.1 at some point. http://twitter.com/MotoMobile/status/8201485891 As will Cliq: http://twitter.com/MotoMobile/status/8211030345 I’ve not found a confirmation about Android OS version updates for Eris (HTC. Separately, @Dave Myrow: Droid Eris is an HTC product, not a Motorola product. I’m sure you’ve heard the same thing as I have from Verizon. That is, “first quarter” for the Android OS update for Eris. Still don’t know if it will be 2.0, 2.01, or 2.1 though.
