Verizon Droid Eris, Google Voice and the “Network Busy” error message
January 18, 2010 | by Robert Nelson

I will clarify that I am not sure how wide spread this problem is, but it happened to me and also to another Droid Eris user that I am friends with. Given that I will assume that it may be happening to other Droid Eris users also.
That said, I recently received a review unit Droid Eris from Verizon and being that I am a Google Voice user the first app that was loaded was Google Voice. Unfortunately after the install I was not able to make a call. Instead I was just given the message of;
Network Busy. Please try again later.
Unfortunately I was not sure if this was because it was the Droid Eris or because it was Verizon or because it was a review unit. One thing that I did know was that the regular (non-Google Voice) calls worked fine, both incoming and outgoing.
Given that, I hit the web and began looking for an answer to why. Fortunately after some searching around on Google I was able to find an answer on the Google Android Support pages.
It turns out that the phone was adding a “+1″ before the number it was dialing and that was not working with Google Voice.
The fix is simple though, just head to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, then click on the “Dialer” app and then hit “Clear Data.”
After that, Google Voice calls should be working as you would expect.

Hey do u have to pay for Google voice?
The app's free but the minutes cost.
You do not pay Google anything unless you call internationally. It still uses your carrier based minutes.
Sorry for unrelated, but I'm taking the Eris post to ask: are there any known issues with YouTube on the Eris? I continually receive "Sorry, this video cannot be played." Can anyone explain this?
Yes there is a fix for youtube embedded videos. You need to down load youtube sleuth free, it will now play the videos.
My Eris constantly says network error and I do not use google voice. It happen probably 2- 3 times a day. Drives me NUTS!!!
I removed Google voice 0.3.0 and still my "phone/dialer" will not work… going to try reformat I guess… sucks!
