HTC Magic to get Android 2.0 update by April?
January 4, 2010 | by Andrew Kameka

HTC Magic owners want an Android 2.0 update, but carriers have been vague about when that will happen. One carrier, Austria’s A1, is willing to go on record and say customers will receive Android 2.0 at some point in the next couple of months. Androinica.com reader David tells us that he recently spoke with a rep from A1 who confirmed that HTC Magic owners will receive an update in March or April.
OK, I just got off the phone with the tech support people from my carrier (A1). They told me that it is GUARANTEED that the HTC Magic will be getting 2.0 and it will be pushed over the air to users on their network between March and April. Android 2.1 is ALSO guaranteed to be coming to the Magic on their network, but they do not have a fix date on that release – yet.
A company’s sales rep can deliver misinformation, but the fact that the person would provide a specific month rather than a vague “soon” or “this year” makes me more likely to think this is possible. HTC has also said it would deliver a 2.0.1 Sense update in the first half of 2010, so let’s hope Magic and G1 users will join the party at that time.
Thanks, David!

Well, Rogers also kept promising 1.6 by a specific "month". First we were told end of October, then end on November, then we were told (after complaining) that they were getting 1.6 for "testing and evaluation". In the end, they had apparently "confused" 1.6 with 1.5 (they're words, not mine), and we are in our current situation.
We didn't get anything truly official until HTC posted on their site that they had no plans to offer 1.6 for Rogers phones. I would recommend the gentleman in Australia might want to ask HTC instead of his carrier.

My recent post Waiting For Answers From Rogers & HTC About Android 1.6
It's Austria, bro – not Australia. Two very different countries (and continents, I might add). A1 doesn't even exist in Australia, it's purely an Austrian carrier (and Vodafone partner). Geeze, a response like this I would have expected from an American, not a Canuck. Ah well – can't always be right, eh?
We can't all be right… ha ha ha. That reminds me of s famous Austrian from the early 1940's.. what was his name again? Ah, doesn't matter.. American dealt him a serious defeat. As for Android.. it can only get better from here… unlike Austria
What a weak comment. Seriously, what are you? 17 or something?
Anything's better than having a name like Steve… did your parent's have naming issues?
Austria and Australia are the same thing: shit noone cares about.

douche alert. thanks for telling him whats what… the text on this site is light grey on white.. amazing. I can see how he might have read Australia instead of Austria… Two very similar countries, no, two very similar words, indeed… I love it when people point out useless things… It was obvious he made a reading error…
On another note. I just got a HTC Magic from rogers, its running 1.5, but it has sense ui and I can purchase apps from the market place. Still want my google goggles tho..
I have an HTC Magic and I am using 2.0.1 now… by the time April rolls around I am going to want something else. Despite all the hype 2.0.1 isn't really that much better than 1.5. Thank God for root!
Not that I'd trust this as legit, but speaking with a salesperson with T-Mobile yesterday they mentioned that myTouch 3G (and perhaps G1, I assume) would be getting 2.xx sometime soon as Verizon has 2.0+ locked through the end of January 2010. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
I'll be biting my nails all through March and/or April. Last tip I heard about A1 pushing 1.6 out turned out to be right, let's hope this one will be, too.
I can't wait for my contract to be up with Sprint in January, 2011. I'll be jumping on Andriod by then.
I used to work for a company where the sales team would promise all sorts of features which we were nowhere near ready to implement. Take this story with a grain or two of salt. …
+1 on that…. "What did they just say our product does? Has anyone told engineering about this awesome new feature they're trying to market?"
Steve! I am shocked and disgusted. I’m only just 18, and I think many 17 year olds have cause to take issue with your comment.
