Motorola MILESTONE sells out in record time

Considering the release the Motorola DROID had here in the States, and the buzz that’s been generated by Google’s first Android 2.0 device, this probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Though, we can imagine why eXpansys is pretty surprised (and thrilled). Motorola has a hit on their hands, and just like the RAZR ages ago, they’ve got the numbers to prove it.

Unfortunately, eXpansys doesn’t yet. While they’re touting the MILESTONE’s record-breaking release from their site, they are not releasing any numbers at this time. The online retailer received well over 1,000 pre-orders for the device, just within the week before the device’s launch, and eXpansys has increased its order to Motorola twice. The record that the MILESTONE broke, regards the fastest sell-out of a gadget in the website’s 11 year history. It even beat out the iPhone. In 2.5 hours, apparently every single MILESTONE that eXpansy had in stock was gone.

Luckily, there should be more handsets in stock by the time Christmas shipping rolls around. So those over in the UK hoping to get a MILESTONE for the holiday season may be in luck. As long as Motorola doesn’t shy away from the number of models provided, that is. Any of our UK readers out there get lucky enough to place their order? Or did you get the “back-order” message at the last minute? Let us know how your experience went.

Thankgod I got mine. Been playing with it today, and it is really rather good!

How did the ordering go from eXpansys? Smooth sailing?

Expansys is ok – some delay on stock but sounds like that issue was more at Motorola's end. Communication could have been a little better, but they did eventually get the message out via their forum.
Those who pre-ordered sim-free were luckier than those that didn't though. Apparently once the phones arrived in stock, the ones on contract had to be moved to another office for set-up on Friday. Mine went to 'ready to ship' last thing on Friday, which I suspect means I won't see it until Tuesday. Argh….

As I'm not a fevered early adopter, am waiting to see what kind of motorola milestone deals will be available on pay monthly, if ever.

The Nexus One is a darn sight cheaper, and a little more appealing running on Eclair. I can see Moto dragging their heels with Android updates, the DEXT is starting to look somewhat creaky with v1.5, as did the BACKFLIP at CES.
