How to remotely lock, wipe, and locate Android phones with WaveSecure
December 6, 2009 | by Andrew Kameka

Those HTC “You” commercials remind me that the first thing I do when leaving the house is look for my phone. Before I even grab the car keys or wallet required for me to go anywhere, I instinctively place more importance on my phone. So you can imagine how me or any other Phone First person would respond if I lost my phone. How would I find the phone, backup my data, or prevent others from misusing my it?
A winner of the Android Developers Challenge 2, WaveSecure answers all of those questions. WaveSecure is an app and web service that allows Android users to maintain a link to their phone in the event that it is lost or stolen. By logging on to the WaveSecure website, users can lock the phone to prevent use, track it’s location within a general area, backup SMS/contacts/call logs/media, wipe phone data, and restore data if the phone is found. Here’s a video showcasing how easy it set-up and use WaveSecure.
If WaveSecure doesn’t meet your needs, consider trying the very similar Mobile Defense. We selected Mobile Defense as one of the Top 50 Android Apps.

How important is having an anti virus? I can’t decide between Wave Secure (has lock feature but no a-v) and Mobile Security by flexilis (anti-vir but only has wipe, no lock feature) and don’t really want to run them both
I just don’t know how important anti virus is or how mant threats are active at this point? I kinda assume attacks are coming soon, but what do you think..?
And just fyi, can’t find Mobile Defense in market from my Droid.
Mobile defense isn't released for CDMA networks yet, so it only works on Android on T-Mobile. They're working on porting it over the Droid and Hero though.
At the moment, there aren't really any known virus issues with Droid. I've used it for more than a year and the one issue I've come across was already patched by Google before it was known/became an issue. At some point, this may change, but there really isn't cause for concern in terms of virus currently.
Hi all,
As a giveback to Android users who supported and made tenCube's ADC win possible, we are offering an unlimited free lifetime account for Android users.
Just head over to Android Market and download before 31st Jan 2010. You will be able to enjoy a free WaveSecure service for as long as you use that Android device.
It's our way of saying thank you. Do spread the word to other Android users so they can benefit from it, too!
Also, if you can join us on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/wavesecure, it would be awesome!
Thanks,

Hi.. No offense to wavesecure, but.is it possible for any company to steal data from one's phones, especially their passwords with these types of programs, or are they completely safe?
Hi Randy,
