HTC Hero users on Sprint now have something to look forward to — an update is coming. Unfortunately, it is not Android OS 1.6 or 2.0, but it may be something that is just as welcomed — a maintenance release update.
According to the Sprint Community Forums;
“A maintenance release is being developed for the Hero to address key items such as SMS and DST issues. The target launch is in the next few weeks, but I do not have the exact date or a list of everything that will be included yet. I will post updates as they are made available to me.”
Now, while I hate to say that I have not seen any issues, because that is usually the quickest way to bring a problem. But personally, I have not seen anything dealing with SMS or daylight savings on my Hero. Of course, I have yet to send or receive an SMS message using the default app, because the first thing I installed was the Google Voice app and that is how I send my SMS messages. Still, anything dealing with maintenance will still be welcomed by me.

I'm not very familiar with the Google Voice app. I've been using the default app for SMS messaging and haven't noticed any problems with it (although the messages do sometimes fail to go through and I have to re-send). Would you mind commenting on the advantages of the Google Voice SMS messenger and why you prefer it? Thanks!
maintenance update today!!!
