Best Buy has recently begun taking orders for the HTC Droid Eris. The nice part here, unfortunately is not in the price, which is $499.99. Of course, that high price is because this particular Droid Eris comes contract-free. So basically you can shell out the big bucks now and then not have to worry if you want to cancel your contract and leave Verizon before your two-years are up.
It is worth mentioning that while the phone is available for order, just click the “add to cart” button, they are noted as being backordered. And on top of that it is showing an estimated shipping time of 1-2 weeks.
Of course as a side note, the Motorola Droid is also going contract free at Walmart for the same $500 price tag. But going with the Motorola Droid you will not get the Sense UI that comes with the HTC Droid Eris. Decisions, decisions.
