Android 2.1 caught in the wild with HTC Hero

We certainly hope you’re not tired of hearing about Android 2.0 yet, because we certainly aren’t. This time around, we’ve got a few more images to share with you. And, while the details are next to scant, we’ve also got it confirmed (more or less) that HTC isn’t working with Android 2.0, but 2.1. That isn’t big news in of itself because Google already stated that a 2.1 update was in the mix, but it is surprising because it was considered to be a fix for the DROID specifically. It’s probably easier for HTC to work with the next build, and to address any bugs right from the get-go, then hear it from the user-base after a release with broken features. So, good on HTC.

Are there any real details regarding the release of this fresh piece of software? None. Is HTC continuing to stay tight-lipped? You bet’cha. Is the 2.1 update the Flan update? We’ll have to wait and see on that one. From what we can tell within these images, nothing much has changed on the User Interface side of things. The messages icon looks the same as the 1.5, as does the mail and browser. But we can see power control in there, both in menu context as well as the power control icons as displayed on the homescreen. So, it looks like HTC managed to get 2.1 under the hood without much in the way of problems. That’s a good thing.

Okay, so without further interference from us, here’s some more pictures to take a gander at. Hopefully this cools your jets for a little bit longer. Or, however long it takes before HTC delivers the goods.
