And you can register to win one right now. While I don’t necessarily want to ruin my own chances at getting this thing, it’s only right that you know about it as well. It’s a giveaway that Samsung is hosting in honor of the phone’s release on the T-Mobile USA network, and they’re boasting some pretty big numbers. They’re planning on giving a phone away every hour, for the next few weeks. If the calendar on the website is accurate, the giveaway will end on December 23, at 12:00 AM. So more accurately, December 24th. That’s a lot of phones.
If you’re rusty on the new TouchWiz device, here’s what we’ve got: a 3.2″ AMOLED display; Android OS; TouchWiz 2.0; a 5.0 MP camera; expandable memory up to 16GB; and visual voicemail. It’s running Cupcake under there, too, just for the record. The phone itself hasn’t received the greatest of reviews, and many people are referencing the Cube UI (a quick navigation unit that allows you to choose six different features along the face of a rotating cube) as merely a gimmick and nothing more, but let’s face it: it’s free. Suggested retail price, so says T-Mobile, is $449, if that helps sway your decision any.
A free phone is hard to pass up. A featurephone that’s running Android OS underneath a pretty neat UI should be impossible to pass up. Even if you’re just planning on selling the thing if you happen to win. The giveaway is going on as I write this, and the link can be found here, and at the bottom of the page. Just go through the quick and painless registration (and remember to check your email for the confirmation email), and then you’re good to go. There’s a huge countdown clock right on the front page, letting you know when the next winner is going to be announced, so you shouldn’t miss anything important.

Sweet. Hope I win one
. BTW, apparently they have been giving out phones since Nov 18th. So a lot of phones. ~ 1000 phone total.

Thanks for posting this. I hope we both win one. Is there a way to install the stock Android OS? I'm not a big fan of all custom UIs.

I actually just saw that myself. That's pretty awesome. I'm glad Samsung has the means to do this; this will get Android into a lot more people's hands, which is a good thing.

You are very welcome. I hope we both win one, too. And at the moment, there isn't a way to get TouchWiz out of the works; and considering there isn't a really big hacker community for anything other than HTC devices, you probably shouldn't hold your breath. Though, crazier things have happened.
Seriously though, TouchWiz 2.0 is pretty cool. I've liked the UI on their other featurephones, and it really wasn't that bad for Android.

Holy crap. You have to go back and re-enter for EACH hourly drawing. That kind of sucks. Still, makes me feel like my chances are way better when I enter the drawing at 3AM.
Good luck everybody!
