Rumor Mill: Google Phone “is a certainty” now, apparently

Leaks happen. It’s part of our industry, and some would probably even call it the lifeblood. And while I love them on both a personal and business level, I’m keen to the leaks that include the infamous blurry cam shot. Of course, sources all over the place usually can’t sneak a camera with them everywhere they go, so working on just word-of-mouth comes with the territory. The guys over at Gizmodo have some great sources, no arguments there, and they’ve been tipped off yet again. This time around, we’ve got the Google Phone.

Details wise, there isn’t much. All we’ve got so far is that it will have a large LCD display. That’s good. There are some very interesting parts to the leak though, like the fact that apparently the Android OS running on the Google Phone is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. While it may be Flan (it’s still arguable that 2.1 is indeed Flan, or just another minor update that could grab another pastry nickname soon enough), or an even newer version of the OS that no one has seen before. Another key part of that, is that this informant saw the OS running not only on the Google Phone, but also a laptop. The source confirmed with Gizmodo that the OS is not Google Chrome OS though, so no worries there.

The Google Phone is a phone designed by Google themselves, and it’s rumored that it will be manufactured by one of the biggest cell phone manufacturers out there. Samsung, HTC, and Motorola are all on the list. Perhaps the most noteworthy part of this, is that apparently all of us Android users right now aren’t using the “real” Android. Gizmodo believes that the “real” Android, is an Android OS with Google Voice at the core. That could very well be, considering the rumors that the Google Phone will primarily focus on VoIP. So what do you think? Google Phone? gPhone?
