The nice people at xda-developers have produced a modded version of Maps 3.2.0 (the official update is 3.2.1) that enables navigation outside the US.

Once again other countries suffer so some unknown reason.. the maps are there so why can't the rest of us have the nav. So sick of not getting the apps that the US has, but it is fine when we spend our money on the same devices. This is no way to try keep loyal customers, so close to moving away from Android and I am a huge fan of it.

Thanks! The voice instruction werent working because I was basically sitting still in my office, once I tried it in the car, worked no problem! (Telenav would begin audio directinos instantly so I was a bit thrown off) GREAT feature! So long Telenav!

You can't tell it to navigate by voice, you have to type in the destination, but there are turn by turn voice directions given to you. The voice app installs to the sd card so it doesn't take up any space on the phone. Try it out...I installed it on my G1 and it is awesome.

then.. the how-to install the navigation on the G1:
It says US phones.
Is there no maps for europe or is it because of differences of the phone?

After installing the update on 1.6 and launching google maps, I was prompted to install a voice app before I could use it which happened to be a 4.25mb app! Now I find out there isn't even voice navigation but I still have to install that giant voice app to use the google map update? 4.25mb of wasted space!

FYI: the navigation isn't really an app, it's an update to Google Maps. Just look for apps that need to be updated, and that sould do it for ya.

There is an update for non-US users but it includes the same directions feature as the Google Maps web version rather than turn-by-turn navigation.
