I do not often post (in fact I am pretty sure I have never posted) a personal complaint of mine, but I have one issue that is just bugging me to no end. And the reason why it is so annoying is that it happens EVERY time I reboot my phone. I am also wondering what little quirks others are having with Android so this seemed like a good way to share a few stories.
Just to give a background, I am currently using a Sprint-branded HTC Hero and the annoyance is dealing with the icon for the Remember The Milk app. Which by the way, should normally be the head of a cow.
Anyway, every time I reboot my Hero, the icon switches from what it should be to a thin vertical red line, which you can see in the image below.
Granted its not really a big deal, the app still works fine. Honestly I just cannot stand looking at it. Of course, a quick uninstall and reinstall of the app corrects the issue everytime. And while I would prefer it to not happen at all, at least there is a quick fix, not to mention the RTM app has no data stored locally. Its all synced with the cloud, so a quick login after the reinstall and I have my tasks and todo’s back in hand.
Like I said, not a big deal, just a big annoyance. So now that I shared mine, lets sound off in the comments with yours.

Actually this is a bigger deal since the issue also causes apps of force close randomly and some will operate unreliability until you re-install the app. This seems to be a common problem with Sprint's HTC Hero, among others. See for yourself at Sprint's HTC Hero Community page.
I've submitted multiple different issues with HTC and have only received one response: "We've elevated the issue". LOL!

My current 'changing' icon is Handcent SMS, though it has afflicted other apps at other times. I too am using an HTC Hero.

You need to Blog more about the Sprint Hero bugs.In fact the whole Android Community needs to. Not enough attention is being brought to them. Sure there is a lot of ranting and raving over at Sprint's HTC Hero Community, that is just want they want, to keep it 'inside' so to speak. Meanwhile Sprint is still selling a phone what will not live up to it's advertised battery life, mono only output through the headphones, and disappearing icons. I know there are remedies for most of these things, but it has been a month now and both Sprint and HTC are dancing around the subject and still pushing this device onto unsuspecting customers.
I Love my Hero, and fixed most of my issues. I just hate to see people mislead.

BTW, it also changes the text underneath the icon.

It is a known bug for the Sprint Hero. I can did up a thread on the Google developers mailing list for you.

haven't experienced this on my droid phone as of yet, but I had an odd issue with volume being stuck VERY low that forced me to reboot the phone the 2nd day i had it and crazy sluggishness that forced another reboot last night. The inability to fully turn off the integrated messenger is also a problem. I was trying to run a 3rd party sms app from the marketplace and both apps kept fighting over who was going to handle the message. I ended up getting tired of 2 beeps for every sms so I uninstalled the 3rd party app. (Handscent was the app). Not sure if that's an issue with the app or the OS. I tend to think it's OS since it was the inability to change/uninstall the packaged app that was the root problem.

also, anyone know what the deal is with a lack of "free" sms? You can now send and receive free sms messages via the google talk interface (at last in Gmail you can if you have google talk turned on). This is available for the computer interface but not the mobile interface? I'd love to use my data package to send/recieve SMS messages through the data portion of my carrier package (and thus not be charged for it). There are a few apps out on the market that claim to this this but they either don't work on the droid or require both the sender and receiver to have the same app installed (holla, for instance).

That actually happened also, just on a different app. Notice the Google Voice app on the bottom right.

There is an easy fix for this bug if you have a rooted HERO, but it is only temporary until the next time you update that app. But it's rather simple.
Jump over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=... Most the good direction is on page 4 and 5.

Just download an OTA firmware update for HTC Hero from Sprint. This is a maint release(v 1.56.651.2), not Android 2.0.

Not having any problems in my G1. Was having some bugs earlier. Uninsalled Weather Bug and that helped with some. Cupcake fixed the rest. While I wish the handset was faster (jealous of the iPhone's speed) I will take a sightly slow processor and a physical keyboard with no bugs over a faster buggy phone any day. Love my G1!!!! Hey HTC – Take the G1 and add a faster processor, more RAM, and make it a bit sleeker and you could have the top Android phone.

I was having a problem with the Where and Movies apps but after I rooted and flashed the Modaco ROM that issue seemed to have gone away.

I was having issues with this problem and with apps reverting to old versions, but it looks like the update released today fixed most of those issues (so far).

You just need to launch the default Messaging application, open the Menu and choose Settings, then scroll down to notification and disable them. Then you can reinstall your 3rd party SMS app and it will control the notifications.
