Want to get Google Maps Navigator on a G1 instead of a Droid? Of course you Android addicts do, and you’re in luck because the always-working folks over at the XDA dev forum have figured out a way to do it on rooted phones.
If your Android phone is rooted, running Cyanogen 4.2.3.1 (the latest version), and you aren’t afraid to follow a few directions, you could have Google Maps Navigator running on your G1. As we’ve mentioned constantly when dealing with root-related issues, read the instructions, take your time, and read the instructions (yes I said it twice).
I had to unroot my phone because of some problems but I plan on redoing the process this week. You can bet this will be one of the first things I do once I regain root access to my phone. Below are instructions on how to install Google Maps Navigator on your G1, courtesy of this thread at XDA. I have not had a chance to test this for myself or on any other rooted phone, so ask questions at XDA.

Make sure you have CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1, by the way.
1) Unzip zip to desktop
2) Run Part 1.bat
3) When prompted to press any key, do so; the phone will reboot
4) When your phone is running again, run Part 2.bat
5) When prompted to press any key, the installation process is done.
6) Make sure GPS is enabled
7) Open Maps and press OK
8 ) Press Menu
9) Press Directions
10) Enter an end point
11) Click Go
12) Just under “Show on map”, click Navigate.
13) When prompted to install the voice codec, do so.
14) Enjoy.

so why no eu phones?
and why do you use bat files?
posting the instructions would be better, so you also could run them in linux.

Works, but it breaks ChompSMS and HandCent, and some other apps (info is trickling in as people encounter issues). Also causes some apps to disappear from the Market, since your phone advertises 2.0 as the OS version after applying the hack. Proceed with caution.

Also if you replace the original build.prop it breaks nav after a while
