Verizon to Droid users: An internet tethering plan is coming in early 2010

Verizon seems to be preparing to nickel and dime Droid customers. We learned yesterday that the big red would be charging an additional $15 a month for Exchange support and now we learn that an internet tethering plan will also be available.

However, unlike the Exchange support the internet tethering plan will not be immediately available, instead users will have to wait until sometime in “early 2010.” That said, the tethering will come in the form of Verizon’s Broadband Access Connect plan.

Price wise, expect to pay an additional $15 a month. Not bad, and in comparison to the price for Exchange support the tethering sounds like a bargain. Just one word of caution, Verizon has a 5GB cap on data, so make sure you monitor your usage.

Ok, tethering I can see them nickel and diming us on…but c'mon now, help out the community a bit by clarifying that Exchange issue. It's becoming one of those pieces of misreported information that people are clinging to when there's no evidence that it's for anything besides Verizon hosted Exchange.

Regarding Exchange, you might want to check this link:

Verizon reps have verified that the extra $15 is for business accounts, not personal accounts that want to connect to an exchange server. Where did you confirm the report on the $15 charge for Exchange alone?

As far as tethering goes, are they going to somehow prevent the existing tethering apps from working? I believe that to do so they'd have to find a way to prevent us from rooting our phones, which would be a huge PR debacle.

Yeah. Tethering is coming and we're Verizon so get ready to bend over again on that one. Just like the $15 extra for exchange support and the increase to $350 early termination fee on Droid!!! Verizon is a joke. I knew there was going to be a way they would screw this whole thing up. Business as usual with the big V…ridiculous. I'll stick with GSM so I can bob and weave as I wish.
