Motorola disappointed everyone waiting on the debut of the Sholes/Tao at their MOTODEV summit. Fear not, there’s good news coming out concerning Verizon and Android. Google joined Verizon in a surprise press conference to announce that they will partner with Google to release several Android phones, beginning in a few weeks.
Verizon and Google plan to collaborate to develop multiple Android devices that feature homegrown content and the wealth of apps available in the Android Market. Verizon, which recently started taking jabs at AT&T, also took another swipe at their rival by stating it will support Google Voice.
There was the typical corporate speech about innovation, synergy, or whatever, but what really got people’s attention was the prospect of the nation’s largest 3G network going so heavy into Android with this partnership. Oh, yeah. That and the unnamed device seen sporting Sense at the press event. It doesn’t resemble any render or spy shot we’ve seen, so just what the heck is it?
