Round 1 of ADC2 ends…what Android apps did you like?

Round 1 of the Android Developers Challenge 2 has ended a few days early. Though Google expected to spend two weeks collecting the necessary feedback from users during this round of public voting, it took only 10 days for more than 26,000 Android users to submit enough reviews for each application to get over 100 scores.

Google’s Eric Chu wrote on the Android Developers blog that, “With this enthusiastic support of the Android community, we are closing the first round of ADC 2 judging today.” Chu also stated that Google would prepare for Round 2 of the challenge, where users (along with a panel of experts) will help select the Top 20 apps in each category. Don’t rush to uninstall the ADC2 app. When voting resumes, the app will notify users, so keep it.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, what apps appealed to you? I forgot the names of most apps, but I really enjoyed GeoAlert, an alarm that goes off when passing a GPS coordinate, and an app that allows you to shoot stop-motion videos. I’d like to get an idea of what caught everyone else’s eye so I know what to look for in the next round.

I reviewed really many applications, but skipped much more. The few I liked: Thinking Space – nice app for mind mapping, reallu useful; Cartoon Gang – new, impressive idea for social app where people can make cartoon like movies and send/share them, contest version has some bugs, but from the market works really great. I liked gps based golf game as well.

I enjoyed Geooh (geocaching app), a few translation apps that utilized speech-to-text and text-to-speech, Handcent (obvious)….but my fav is still flyscreen

    PlinkArt was cool.

I was absolutely floored by Alex Digital Secretary.

I am floored by the apps that I like that are still not in the market. You talked about Geooh and I was going to go check it out but it doesn't seem to be in the market.

Also, being an applicant myself, I was astonished at how many apps had hideous design flaws from a windowing perspective. Problems with landscaping and the like. I hope that means my chances are good.

I loved the motocross game, although it was really difficult. I also thought that Screebl was cool. I immediately downloaded that one from the market (Screebl Lite) and have been using it since.

I loved the online multiplayer android and browser based bomberman like game World of Bombs (http://www.zeugame.com/wob2). Even if there was few people connected during ADC2 round 1, and some app crashes, I think it has the potential after some bug fixes and improvements to become a must to have on android platform.

The Great Land Grab was such an original concept, for a jaded gamer like me it was a breath of fresh air and I'm still addicted weeks later!

  12. AlexSDroid Says:

I liked TextMail and DialM applications. Really innovative!

  13. Lisa Chase Says:

I really loved the brilliance of Project Pelican. The best solitaire game that requires memory and skill. The uploading of scores is a great world-wide concept.

  14. Sergo Says:

Save to Geooh, I haven't seen/judged any of above mentioned apps and games. But Light Speed Racer 3D game was good.

  15. Fabio Says:

Handcent is a great application but the terms of adc2 says:

In addition, an Entry (or substantially similar application by the same Participant) must not have previously been publicly available through the Android Market prior to August 1, 2009

Handcent was in android Market before August!!
Why is it in adc2 final round?!?
    Bye
