HTC Hero passes FCC tests, slated for AT&T?

The HTC Hero made it through the FCC process with some listed standards that suggest AT&T may be the carrier who offers the device in the United States. The FCC approved the Hero to run on 850/1900Mhz bands, which happens to be the frequency used by AT&T. Could AT&T get its first Android phone this year?

HTC’s earliest statement that it was bringing a “distinct” version to North America signaled that it had yet to determine an American company to distribute the Hero. Original rumors suggested that Sprint was testing the Hero to see if it would be the U.S. carrier to offer the phone. This news obviously throws a wrench in that suggestion.

Who will be the lucky company to offer the Hero? Will there be more than one company with different versions?

    I Agree – this totally sucks. I absolutely am in a huge state of technolust over the Hero, but I will not switch to AT&T for the pleasure… I have yet to meet an AT&T customer who is satisfied with call quality and doesn't report frequent dropped calls.

    I really hope that this news doesn't invalidate previous reports that Sprint is on track for an October release.

    i dont know what is everybodies problem, i have been with AT&T for almost 8 years and i havnt had aany problems with them, and im glad to see them get some good phones, because personally i cant stand the other carriers, cause verizon might have some good coverage, but ther OS sucks!!! i cant do anythin with all that vcast bull***t…and the coverage for AT&T in GA. is great!

    But hey everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but so far AT&T is the best, maybe a little pricey, but u do get what u pay for!

    Oh well anyone but ATT. I guess that makes my choice for me. Its the Mytouch with T-Mobile not the Hero with ATT.

    @Bryan

    I agree, i'm with AT&T and have no problems at all with my service. A few years back i had Sprint and their service was the worst (and i've had att, verizon, sprint and nextel)…to be fair from what i understand sprint has improved over the past few years but i wouldn't know as i have been refusing to anywhere near them lol

    nevermind. HERO uses the SENSE interface for android.

    now ladies and gentlemen, this is an iphone killer.

    and AT&T should pick this up like they did with the HTC Touch Diamond2 and Pro2. and screw that Lancaster crap…

    @Robert:

    hello. i'm an at&t user and I report no problems at all.
