Weather Channel adds home screen widget

The Weather Channel Android app is the third-most popular app in the Android Market, and it now has an accompanying widget offering similar information at a glance.

The Weather Channel WxWdiget quickly reports the temperature and current weather conditions on the home screen. It also updates during severe weather alerts, turning red to indicate impending dangerous conditions. The widget auto-updates every five minutes to ensure that the conditions provided are accurate.

Surprisingly, clicking the widget opens the Weather Channel website in the browser rather than in the app that has become so popular. This may change as the Weather Channel plans to integrate the widget into future updates of the app.

Search for “Weather Channel WxWidget” to download the widget in the Android Market.
