When purchasing a cell phone most people (myself included) only look at the amount of money that we have to shell out on the day of purchase and rarely consider the monthly fees that will make up the total cost of ownership. Thankfully we have someone to do that for us.
BillShrink has just recently offered up a nice comparison showing off the total cost of ownership of the G1 as compared to the Palm Pre and iPhone 3G S, sadly the G1 has not come in with the lowest price. That said at least it was not the most expensive, which in this case was the iPhone 3G S.
Of course, while these types of comparisons are neat to check out, they are not always entirely accurate and prices are always subject to change. Which in the case of the G1 has already happened, if you check T-Mobile the price of the G1 is down to $149.99 on contract. Not to mention that you can get it for as little as $97.99 at Amazon. Additionally, this cost comparision was done using a $99.99 calling plan from T-Mobile, which depending on your needs can be lowered significantly. Additionally, I think T-Mobile has has better calling options if you are looking for a family plan.
Bottom line, I would take this with a grain of salt, but at the same time it is nice to see it all listed side-by-side.

I think you need to re-do that for UK users!
I got my G1 8 months ago, the phone was free (and still is) and I pay the equivalent of around $50 for unlimited data and text/mms
If you do UK prices the results will be completely different!
oh, and we get an 8Gb SD card with it for free too
G1 Users can only install applications in the phones memory.
Not necessarily, with a little hack [
