We have seen the leaked box art, the earlier release related rumors and most recently the actual phone in-the-wild. Given that it should not surprise anyone when T-Mobile actually chooses to officially unveil the myTouch 3G. That said, according to a recent WSJ article, it looks like we may see that announcement as early as “next week.”
So far, nothing has been made official, and in this case the details are only coming courtesy of “people familiar with the matter.” Of course, all things considered, this is not that far off from the “early summer” timeframe that we heard from the T-Mobile CTO earlier this month.
Personally, I am looking forward to this release, not so much because I want to replace my G1, but instead because now users, or more importantly, potential users will have the option to choose between the hardware keyboard on the G1 or go with the virtual keyboard on the myTouch 3G. It should be interesting to see how well the G1 continues to sell.
This pending release also goes back and ties in with the recently lowered pricing on the G1, which as I pointed out back on June 11 was down to $149.99 with T-Mobile. Of course, Amazon is still offering the G1 much cheaper.
