The buzz around Google Voice continues to grow, with some suggesting that we may soon see Google open the doors to its robust communication system.
Earlier rumors suggested that Google Voice would open registration last Thursday but that proved to be false. However, Google recently confirmed that it has secured one milllllliiiooonn phone numbers for use with Voice. How soon will we be able to snatch up numbers and Voice accounts?
I signed-up for alerts about registration updates when I first wrote about Google Voice weeks ago and haven’t heard anything yet. The chatter about registration being opened and the news that Google has secured more numbers has me checking the website periodically throughout the day just incase.
Google Voice likely has plenty of people doing the same since it provides a universal number, custom voicemail options, voicemail transcriptions, VoIP service, and much more. The accompanying “GV” app will likely enhance Google Voice on Android even further.

can you start putting in your stories when something is US (or any other country) specific??
I've just read this then had to look it up only to find it doesn't apply to the majority of Android users (those outside the USA). There's a lot of Android sites doing the same as yourselves and not reporting the full story on their WORLD WIDE web sites!!!

Maff, you in the UK? Maybe we should start up a UK Android blog. There's so much that we don't have that people in the US do (Latitude is one thing that springs to mind)

yes, I'm in the UK, but I have Latitude and have for a while (Google Maps update is on the market which includes latitude for the UK plus before that Geeksyouup wrote a "latitiude enabler" for rooted phones)
It's just starting to annoy me that the web is for the whole world, if sites like this are country specific then they should at least say so!

We typically notify users when something is nation-restrictive but don't always have that information available. Companies don't always share their plans about availability details so there isn't a definitive word about when it will be available in the US, UK, Canada, etc.. In the future, I'll try to more prominently spell out when something isn't available.
