T-Mobile G1 moves up, now fifth overall in US smartphone sales

The T-Mobile G1 is moving on up in terms of smartphone sales here in the US. According to the most recent Smartphone Market Update report from the NPD Group, the G1 is now sitting in the number five slot.

  • RIM BlackBerry Curve (all 83XX models)
  • Apple iPhone 3G (all models)
  • RIM BlackBerry Storm
  • RIM BlackBerry Pearl (all models, except flip)
  • T-Mobile G1

Overall, I would say this is a pretty decent accomplishment. It means they were able to beat out some other big names such as Microsoft and Symbian. Of course, they also came in higher than Palm, but I cannot offer any real surprise or congratulations there.

Unfortunately, while we have been given a look at the ranks, we have not seen any sales numbers. Another interesting to note is that the iPhone has lost the number one spot. Yup, the BlackBerry Curve 83xx has taken over. Of course, the iPhone has not fallen far as it is now listed as number two. It should be pointed out though, that at least part of the popularity of the Blackberry models can be attributed to the recent buy-one-get-one offers that Verizon has been running.

Now, if we could just see a few more Android handsets come to market here in the US. Then maybe the overall popularity of Android would catch on and we could see the G1 move on up even further.
