E! planning to release Android app

E! Entertainment doesn’t think you access enough celebrity news on their celeb-driven TV shows or star-saturated website. No, they think you also need your celebrity fix on your cell phone, so they plan to release Android and iPhone apps later this week to make that possible.

E! announced yesterday that it will launch a free, ad-support app for Android. The app would let users create custom updates for certain celebrities news and watch video clips from some of E!’s flagship shows like “The Soup.” Even clips from reality/talk shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Chelsea Lately” would appear.

John Najaran, an executive VP from E!’s parent company, Comcast Entertainment Group, said that apps for the network will play a big part in its growth in mobile business. He went on to say that:
“The app is going to be highly interactive and incorporate multimedia, video, photos and everything you see on our Web site…We have added personality so you can track and stay in touch with your favorite celebrity.”

Video and text ads will be included in the app as a way to generate money. Expect to see it in the Android Market some time this week.
