China Mobile rumored to be launching the Android powered OPhone in May

The latest rumor surrounding the Lenovo OPhone is calling for a release to come as early as May. The news is coming courtesy of DigiTimes who are reporting that China Mobile will launch the “iPhone-like smartphone” in May. Unfortunately the details of the launch are pretty light.

What is interesting is that, assuming the May launch is accurate, then it will hit the market ahead of the iPhone. If that does happen it should be interesting to see how it plays out once the iPhone becomes available. Could launching first put a dent in potential iPhone sales in China?

In addition to (hopefully) offering some competition to the iPhone in the Chinese market, there are plenty of people who simply want to see the custom Android build that it will be running, and once it is released I am sure we will see plenty more screenshots and video.
