Office doc editing now available on Android

Android Apps, Productivity
DocsToGo is live in the Android Market, finally making it possible to edit Microsoft Office documents on Google Android. After months of waiting, G1 owners can now view, edit, and create Word and Excel documents on their cell phone.
Until now, the only MS Office options were to pay $20 to view files in QuickOffice or rely on Internet access and the Google Docs mobile website. DocsToGo (Standard Edition) now makes it possible to edit Word and Excel files in formatting supported by Office 97-2008. It can also download and view/edit Gmail attachments.
Available at an introductory price of $19.99 (regularly priced at $29.99), DocsToGo is relatively expensive for an Android app. However, it’s the only game in town for anyone wanting to revise Word documents or tweak a spreadsheet on a G1/HTC Dream. DocsToGo also lacks the PowerPoint and PDF viewing features available on Windows Mobile and Blackberry versions of the app. DataViz promised both features when it first announced plans to bring Office support to Android, so we may see them in an update. (Or will there be a DocsToGo “Premium” edition soon?)
DocsToGo can be found in the ‘Productivity’ section of the Android Market.

Glad that its finally here! But far to much at $20
I bought it yesterday and it’s a keeper. Sadly I also bought Quick Office for 7.99 and it’s too late for a refund. I suspect dataviz will ask users of the standard edition to pay a little extra to upgrade for p pdf and ppt files
I was afraid of that, which is why I didn’t buy QuickOffice. They promised to eventually add editing support, but I expected DataViz to beat them to the punch. Sad to see you’re stuck with QuickOffice, but maybe they may prove to be a better app in the long-run.
Is there a pdf viewer available on android?
This is cool, but like others have said, I will wait for the Pro edition most likely to come, which should hopefully include .ppt and .pdf support.
Yes, there are paid apps like PDF Viewer and JETCET but both have common complaints about their inability to handle large files.
I’m very happy with DocsToGo on Android. Almost all of the M$ files I use at work are either Excel or Word. Sure PDF support would be nice, but my Palm version didn’t have it, and I never expected it out of software purporting to support M$ file types.
I’m running out of empathy for the “great program BUT returned for refund” crowd. If developers can’t make any money on Android, I wouldn’t expect Android to fulfill its potential.
I’m I just blind or is the app not in the marketplace? I checked the productivity section and I’ve tried to search for it, but nothing comes up…
Search for the phrase “Documents To Go”
did they remove it from the app store – it’s not there any longer?
I can’t see it either. Had the same problem with QuickOffice. I did the search recommended and nothing came up. Any suggestions?
That’s weird. Try this:
1. Go into the Productivity section
2. Press Menu and then “Change View”
3. Select “Priced Items Only”
4. Then click on the “By date” tab
Documents to Go should be the fourth option. I don’t know why it isn’t coming up for you guys. Are you in Europe or the U.S.?
Which one better? Document To Go or QuickOffice?
why pay if WM make it all for free…im disappointed with android and iphone…have to pay for all apps…
