Fret not rookie Android developers; you are not alone in your frustrations. Developers in the Android Market are reporting that they are having trouble linking their new Merchant account and Android Developer accounts, which prevents them from uploading paid apps to the Market. Developers attempting to upload paid apps to the Market have reported seeing an error message stating “Sorry, we could not setup your merchant account. Please try again.”
No one knows what’s causing the problem just yet. Android Community, the website that first spotted the problems, have contacted Google for comment. We’ll be sure to update this post as soon as an answered is provided to them or posted directly to the Android Market Help page where the error concerns originated.
In semi-related news, readers have also reported experiencing problems with Google Checkout accounts as consumers. Both problems with Google Checkout originated on the same day, March 12, and likely aren’t directly related.
UPDATE: March 16, 2009, 12:50pm
The problem has apparently been fixed. A Google Employee posted this message to the help forum: “The issue you were having should now be resolved. Please reply to me here if you experience any further issue and thank you for your patience.”
