It is expected that Android phones will begin to have different user interfaces over time. A good UI goes a long way for making a phone stick out from the pack. But what good is a new interface if it bears an obvious resemblance to one of the most recognizable phones around?
A Chinese blog has posted images of the Lenovo OPhone that show the Android phone with an incredibly iPhone-esque appearance. From the black and gray notification bar to the glossy button icons, the phone is clearly a take on Apple’s mobile phone. We’ve seen plenty of Android home screen alternatives offer skins made to look like the iPhone, but an official rip of the interface straight out of the box? Poor form.
Lenovo deserves credit for trying to distinguish itself from the Android onslaught expected this year, but duplicating the iPhone’s look isn’t the way to go about it. This is imitation on overdrive and probably going to get the company in legal trouble. I’d love to see more companies try to change Android’s look, but they shouldn’t both unless they plan to actually create something new.
