Guitar Hero and other popular game titles coming to Android

Remember that episode of South Park that mocked the addictive tendencies shared by many fans of the Guitar Hero video game franchise? Well, Trey Parker and Matt Stone may be tempted to update some of those jokes now that Guitar Hero is coming to Android.

T-Mobile has announced that it will soon begin selling Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile in the Android Market. According to a press release sent to the Guardian, “gamers will use the G1′s sensitive touch-screen to play along with 15 rock classics including Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’, Guns’n'Roses’ ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’. There’s also a bonus song available every month, and users can log on to to create their own rock star persona.”

I’m not much of a Guitar Hero fan (brings back troubling memories of when I tried to learn to play an actual guitar), but I welcome this news. Guitar Hero is one of the most popular titles in the world, so its release signals that Android may finally get some decent games now that paid apps are accepted in the U.S. and U.K.

Mobile versions of Monopoly, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, and Tetris — which has already seen its fair share of imitators in the Market — are also expected to follow.
