We have heard the numerous complaints from Android users about the lack of multi-touch support, there are even some hacks available that will allow users to enable it on their own. Now, at least according to an “unnamed Google Android team member” the lack of support was intentional and came at the request of Apple. It seems that Apple approached Google and asked them to not use multi-touch and in an effort to maintain a working relationship, Google did what they requested.
That same source also went on to say he was happy that Google complied, especially considering the potential legal action that Palm may see in regards to their multi-touch-capable Pre. Additionally he confirmed that Intel is still “heavily involved” in the development of Android based netbooks.
