Is the G1 multi-touch capable? It is looking like a yes

While a touchscreen device is great, it is hard to deny that multi-touch capability is even nicer. Although there has been plenty of speculation on whether G1 has multi-touch support, as of now, the G1 does not — at least officially. Thanks to some enterprising users, it seems that the G1 may indeed be able to support multi-touch. Which leaves the bigger mystery of why it was not included.
According to the findings, there is a driver for the Synaptics touchscreen that has some code commented out. So, those users recompiled the kernel with that commented out code included and replaced the boot.img. Then, as you would have guessed, multi-touch was possible.
Of course, now that we have seen it is possible comes the bigger question. Will multi-touch be enabled on a future software update, or is the G1 destined to remain a single-touch device?
