Google’s RC30 update “fixes” jailbreak issue
November 10, 2008 | by Robert Nelson

Well, almost as quickly as the G1 jailbreak was discovered, a new Google patch has taken it away. The latest over-the-air update for Android comes in the form of the RC30 update and is noted as being an “accelerated release” that will “fix” the recent jailbreaking issue.
According to Google, they are working with their “partners to push the fix out” and are “updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.” Bottom line, if you were not looking to jailbreak your G1, then go ahead and accept the RC30 update, and on the flip side, if you have already or were planning to jailbreak then you may want to hold off as long as you can before accepting this latest update.
It seems that just like Apple and the iPhone, that the cat and mouse game with Google and the G1 has begun. I wonder how long it will be before another enterprising user will discover another way to achieve root access?

I’m curious, what benefits do you get from jailbreaking the G1 (other than nerd cred, of course)? It’s pretty easy to install your own apps without Android Market and distribute them on Android Market. Is there much use in jailbreaking?

Being it is still new and in its infancy, I would say at this point it is simply “nerd cred” and more of just hope that it will bring new possibilities from the G1 in the future.
I have G1 with no data plan. It worked fine and I had access to email and internet via Wi-Fi until the update message on November 7th.
Now when I try to get into my gmail ,it tells me I have connection error.( Wi-Fi signal is stong but it still not able to get my mail received after Nov 7th.
I have RC-29.
Is there a way to get me back on internet/email via Wi-Fi? Not ready for data plan until late Spring.
