There comes a time when a factory reset may be needed, it may be as simple as just wanting to get a clean start, or perhaps you are selling your handset. The worst thing you could do in the case of passing on your handset is to pass on your data with it. Luckily in the case of the T-Mobile G1 the factory reset is a pretty simple process.
To reset the G1, first power off your handset and then hold the Home key and the End key for about 20 seconds, or until you see a “triangle with an exclamation point and a picture of the G1″ on the display.
From there, simply open up the QWERTY keyboard and hit “Alt+W” and it will then be restored to factory settings, meaning the next time you turn it back on, you will be prompted to re-register.
Another useful tip is to perform a soft reboot, that can be achieved by hitting “Home+Back.” While this will not erase any of your data, it could be helpful in getting things back to normal should you begin to experience any slow down of the operating system.
