Hop-On looking to announce Android handset during CES 2009

Hop-On, who is perhaps better known for their disposable HOP 1800 handset has recently announced plans to introduce an Android based handset in early 2009. So far the details are very sparse, it was only mentioned that they plan to make the announcement during CES 2009 and that the handset will sell for “under $200.” Other details still remain a mystery.

“Hop-on is committed in bringing the latest technology to the market, the Android open platform makes Hop-on competitive in the high end mobile phone market. This will create market value for our shareholders.”

It seems a little strange that concern for their shareholders seems to be coming first, as opposed to their customers, but I guess they have to be happy as well. I suppose that by using Android, they will be able to keep their costs lower. Personally I am a little skeptical that this will ever be released, of course if/when they make that announcement during CES you can be sure we will keep you updated.
