Touchscreen keyboard coming to Android in early-2009

While the G1 has been getting pretty good reviews that does not stop the complaints from coming, after all no mobile phone has yet been determined to be perfect. One of these issues is due to the lack of software keyboard, which initially sounds like it should not be an issue thanks to the large (and comfortable) QWERTY keyboard, however considering the G1 has such a nice touchscreen it almost seems funny to have had it left out.

Well, whether you are missing the software keyboard or not, it looks like G1 users will soon have the option to use either the hardware or a software keyboard. Thanks to some details on the Android roadmap it seems that it will be available sometime during Q1 2009. As of now the details are limited but it does mention that it will support “a dictionary of suggestions, and a suggestion algorithm.”
