If you were counting on Google’s money to develop your first Google Android application, you better stop snoozing now! The deadline for the Android Developer Challenge I is next Monday, April 14th. Who’s going to get the money? The 50 most promising entries received before the deadline will each receive a $25,000 award to fund further development. Those selected will then be eligible for even greater recognition via ten $275,000 awards and ten $100,000 awards. Not bad!
Applications will be judged on these four criterias:
1. Originality
2. Effective Use of the Android Platform
3. Polish and Appeal
4. Indispensibility
You can get more details on the Judging process here.
Here are a few application ideas suggested for Google Android phones:

• Productivity and collaboration such as email, IM, calendar, etc.
• Gaming
• News and information
• Rethinking of traditional user interfaces
